Swedish Gaming Industry Urges Early Removal of Online Casino Restrictions

The Swedish Betting Organization (BOS) is requesting that the Swedish authorities remove the temporary limitations imposed on internet casinos. Initially scheduled to end on November 14th, BOS is advocating for an earlier reversal date of September 29th, coinciding with the government’s declaration to lift all pandemic-related restrictions on that date.

They contend that the limitations, implemented due to worries about heightened gambling dependency during lockdown, are no longer needed. Given that the Public Health Agency is also retracting its suggestion to work remotely on September 29th, BOS posits that eliminating the online casino limitations on the same day would ensure uniformity.

Moreover, BOS stresses that there’s no data to indicate that compulsive gambling has risen during the pandemic. Indeed, research demonstrates that while the number of individuals gambling in Sweden initially climbed, the typical sum spent actually declined.

The Swedish iGaming Trade Organization is pushing for the removal of all pandemic limitations, particularly those affecting wagering, by their government. Their argument is that the gaming sector should be part of Sweden’s efforts to restore normalcy.
